How to clean the Thermomix

IMG_2752When I start talking about the Thermomix with my friends, sooner or later they usually come out with the comment: “If it only cleaned itself!”

The amazing thing is that the Thermomix pretty much actually does clean itself!

How does it do that?!

Well, follow these instructions and your Thermomix will be shiny and ready for the next meal!

How to clean the Thermomix

  1. With the bowl still assembled, fill the Thermomix with water until the top of the blade is submerged.
  2. Add a squirt of your favourite washing up liquid or detergent.
  3. Close the lid and place on the measuring cup to prevent any splashes.
  4. Set the Thermomix for four minutes, 60 degrees at speed six.
  5. Once it’s done, just rinse and you’re clean!

Quick cleaning:

  1. Add some hot water to the bowl until the top of the blade is submerged.
  2. Add a squirt of your favourite washing up liquid or detergent.
  3. Close the lid and place on the measuring cup to prevent any splashes.
  4. Press the turbo button for about 5 to 10 seconds.
  5. Once it’s done, just rinse and you’re clean!

Now, what you may have to do (particularly if you’ve been cooking something with protein in it) is to remove the blade from the bowl as normal and clean anything that may have been stuck there, along with removing the seal in the lid and cleaning that. But following the steps above will do most of the work for you!

Just two things I you should remember:

  1. When you remove the blade after the cleaning method above, it will be hot, especially the bottom of the blade. Be careful!
  2. Always use a non-scouring sponge when cleaning the Thermomix as it will prevent you scratching it.

Some other tips are:

  • If you just need a quick rinse, for example when you are between courses in a dinner, just fill the Thermomix above the blade and press the turbo button a couple of times.
  • All parts of the Thermomix are dishwasher safe.
  • Use a stiff brush to clean the blade so you can reach all it without hurting your hand.
  • To clean the main part wipe the white engine block with a wet cloth.
